Palermo is the largest city on the Italian island of Sicily with 673.735 (2017) inhabitants. Sicily is a stunning and divine small island on the coast of southern Italy also known as the football at the foot of Italy’s boot. The island is primarily known for its comfortable weather, beautiful nature and last but not least one of the tallest active volcanoes in Europe : Mount Etna. With 7 Unesco World Heritage Sites, the island has plenty to offer in terms of sightseeing. One of them, called the Cathedral Churches of Cefalú and Monreale, is located in the heart of Palermo. Besides this the city has plenty of cultural and historical sights. The artistic scene in the city can’t compare to some of the larger cities in Italy, but is still worth mentioning. Many galleries are scattered throughout the city, the most famous being Civica Galleria d'Arte Moderna Empedocle Restivo, or Palermo’s Modern Art Gallery.

Naturewise Sicily is full of stunning white beaches, and Palermo is just a short ride by car or bus away from a few of them. With just a 20 minute bus ride, you’ll reach Palermo's local beach called Mondello, where all of the palermatinis flock in the summertime to relax with a good book in the shade of the parasol, or take a quick swim in the comfortably tempered water. Right by Palermo, the gorgeous Natural Reserve of Capo Gallo is located. Here you can hike, go on picnics, or just splash around in the lukewarm sea waters. 

The culinary scene in palermo is a great pride to many sicilians. They have lots of local dishes, and markets with alluring fresh produce. Many of the people on the market won’t speak English but luckily Sicilians are known to be very helpful people and you won’t have to worry about the language barriers, if you don’t speak great italian. There’ll always be someone willing to help. This applies to many other situations as well, like taking public transport or running errands in the city hall.
