Genoa is the home of Italy’s largest sea port but also 618.834 (2017) citizens. The large port means the city is an essential contributor to the Italian shipping businesses, which also creates plenty of job opportunities in the city within this sector. This is however far from the only thing Genoa has to offer. Like many other larger cities in Italy, Genoa has a rich historical past, as fx. The world famous explorer Christopher Columbus grew up in a house near the city centre. A monument has now been built where his home used to be, where you can experience how he grew up. Genoa also has a rather interesting architectural heritage, which is not doubtable when you visit the city. Charismatic old buildings with antiquity decorate the city centre. The old city is especially notable in this area, as there are buildings dating all the way back to the medieval time period. The area is still very much residential, even though new cafés, restaurants and modern shops pop up continually.

The nightlife in Genoa is bustling, and the city offers many different varieties of theme bars, clubs or just your regular bar. The dining opportunities follow this theme, and there's something for every taste.

The University of Genoa lies in the centre of the city, and occupies more than 30.000 students (2016), which means many students chose to settle in the city. With a bustling student life, many social events follow, such as concerts, study groups, cafés and life in general throughout the city. However living in Genoa with smaller children is unproblematic as well, as there are many excellent schools in the area, both public and private. There are also several public playgrounds just a walk from the centre.
