Roskilde is a city in Denmark located in western Zealand. It’s the tenth most populous city in Denmark with around 51.793 (2021) residents.

It can be categorized as a university city as many move here to attend RUC, or Roskilde university, which is a 5 min car-ride away from the centre of the city, in an area called Trekroner. Many students settle in Roskilde to study. The municipality of Roskilde and RUC have in many ways a very close relationship, and they help each other with research etc. This also means student housing and accommodation is prioritized by the municipality and city, which makes settling there a whole lot easier.

Apart from being a university city, Roskilde is also known as a festival city, as every year in July, an area of 1,65 square km is transformed into the largest festival in Scandinavia, and the second largest festival of Europe. Roskilde festival gathers around 130000 people every year, who take a week out of their schedule to listen to artists from around the world, look at art, party and consume a truly impressive amount of beer.

When the festival season is over, the everyday returns, however as boring as that sounds,  there are still plenty of opportunities in terms of leisure and fun in Roskilde 

Roskilde is home to many culturally interesting sights such as the cathedral, called the créme de la créme of Danish cathedrals. It was originally built in 1170, but has since then been renovated more times than fingers can count, which grants the construction a beautiful display of 800 years worth of Danish architecture. Roskilde is also home to a new rock museum named after the Norse Mythology’s version of doomsday,  Ragnarok. Here you can experience a multisensorial, and interactive journey through the history of rock.

Roskilde additionally has many small locally owned cafes and restaurants worth a visit when you visit or settle there. Many of them are conveniently located in the centre of the city. You can profitably take a stroll through the stunning city centre surrounded by buildings constructed over 100 years ago, mixed with modern architecture, and end up in one of the eateries for a coffee, lunch etc. The public transport of Roskilde is unproblematic and reliable, and via. the direct railway connection to Copenhagen you can reach the inner city in only 40 minutes.
